A long-term client with just under 100 insured employees was facing a 15% annual increase in their fully insured medical premium. Although they had been a loyal customer of the carrier for eight years and were not unhappy with the benefits or service, they could not sustain the year over year rate increases.
We explored various options that would allow the group to better control their costs. The group decided to join a benefits captive and we put together a program that includes a Third Party Administrator, a Pharmacy Benefits Manager, an independent provider network, and a health plan manager for utilization review and case management.
While this resulted in additional coordination and collaboration, it allows the client to receive claims data and see where their premium dollars are going.
